Sree Gurudeva Vidyanikethan Central School Penakam

Bharatheeya Vidyanikethan, Kerala’s chapter of Vidya Bharathi, was founded to revive our rich educational legacy. It promotes a curriculum rooted in values, identity, and character-building.

Sree Gurudeva Vidyanikethan Central School, Penakam, follows this vision. We believe that children are the key to the nation’s future. Our aim is their all-round development through knowledge and Sanskar—the timeless values of our culture.

“In a changing world, we strive to nurture competent individuals rooted in Bharatheeya values.”

PANCHAMUKHI SIKSHANA PADHATHI

Our educational approach is multidisciplinary, integrating various branches of learning into a holistic model. At Sree Gurudeva Vidyanikethan, we follow the Pancha Mukhi Shikshana Padhathi—a five-fold education system focused on:

•Physical Education (Sareerik Shikshan)

•Yoga

•Music (Sangeeth)

•Sanskrit

•Moral and Spiritual Education (Naithik evam Adhyatmik Shikshan)

Our management is deeply committed to providing a nation-building, character-forming education rooted in spirituality, ensuring the holistic development of every child.

NAITHIK EVAM ADHYATMIK SHIKSHAN (Moral and Spiritual Education)

The ultimate aim of education is to shape individuals into responsible citizens, grounded in ethical and spiritual values. Education is a transformative force—an instrument of purification and self-realization.

In today’s world, where education is often driven by commercial interests, moral and spiritual teachings are more essential than ever. True societal progress lies not just in material wealth but in the cultivation of values rooted in tradition. A family system guided by “Purushartha Dharma” forms the cornerstone of our heritage.

To uphold these ideals, we incorporate Naithik and Adhyatmik Shikshan into the Pancha Mukhi framework. Lessons are built upon the timeless values enshrined in:

“Mathru Devo Bhava, Pithru Devo Bhava, Acharya Devo Bhava, Atithi Devo Bhava, Rashtra Devo Bhava”, fostering a value-based life committed to family, society, and the nation.

Academic Programmes

To uphold these ideals, we incorporate Naithik and Adhyatmik Shikshan into the Pancha Mukhi framework. Lessons are built upon the timeless values enshrined in:

“Mathru Devo Bhava, Pithru Devo Bhava, Acharya Devo Bhava, Atithi Devo Bhava, Rashtra Devo Bhava”, fostering a value-based life committed to family, society, and the nation.

SISUVATIKA

Sisuvatika is a unique child development programme envisioned by Vidya Bharati, which views the child as an integrated whole. It is neither based on a formal syllabus nor is it a typical pre-primary education programme. Instead, a thoughtfully designed Sisuvatika curriculum exposes children to a variety of real-life situations in the classroom, encouraging subconscious and holistic development.

“The Chechi,” who leads the activities, treats each child with tenderness and care—like nurturing a budding flower. The warm, friendly, and carefully guided classroom environment allows children to acquire essential life skills with confidence and self-esteem, all within a non-threatening space.

The first stage of Sisuvatika is called Arun—symbolizing the first breaking rays of the sun. The second stage is Udaya, which means “enlightenment” or the rising rays. These two years of development are thus seen as a beautiful transition from the tender rays of Arun into the illuminating beams of Udaya.

Faculty resourcefulness is the cornerstone of Sisuvatika. Teachers are required to have a clear understanding of various dimensions of integral development. To ensure this, we conduct a three-month residential Sisuvatika Teacher Training Course under BVN, guided by renowned scholars and child psychologists. In-service refresher courses are also held regularly to keep faculty updated and inspired.

SANSKRIT

Sanskrit is the classical language regarded as the mother of all languages. It carries the essence of the world’s most ancient ideologies and philosophical thoughts. Renowned scholars around the globe acknowledge the unmatched depth found in Sanskrit literature.

Given its invaluable cultural and philosophical contributions, we have included Sanskrit as a core element of our Pancha Mukhi Shikshana Padhathi. With the support of eminent scholars, we teach texts like the Bhagavad Gita, Vedic and Upanishadic hymns, and various motivational verses, offering students a gateway to our national heritage.

Co-curricular Activities

PRARTHANA SABHA

Prarthana Sabha is a distinctive practice at our school. Each day begins with this comprehensive prayer session, designed to make students mentally composed, intellectually alert, and spiritually enlightened.

The components of our Prarthana include:

Saraswati Vandana

Brahmanath Dhyanam

Gayatri Mantra

Rashtra Vandana

Shanti Mantra

In addition, students participate in a 10-minute physical warm-up to promote bodily fitness and readiness for the day.

SAREERIK SHIKSHAN (Physical Education)

Physical fitness is the foundation for all human achievements. The adages “Sareeramadyam khalu Dharma sadhanam” and “A sound mind in a sound body” affirm this principle. The first pillar of our Pancha Mukhi Shikshana Padhathi is Sareerik Shikshan.

We have a distinctive system of physical education. Each day begins with a ten-minute warm-up session during the Prarthana Sabha to energize the students. Tailored physical training activities are organized according to age groups. Our aim is to raise children who are physically active, strong, and capable of meeting life’s challenges. To support this, we have trained physical education instructors who supervise and guide the program.

YOGA

Yoga is one of the greatest gifts bestowed upon humanity by our ancestors. Through asanas and pranayamas, yoga helps uncover hidden potential, promote positivity, reduce tension, and enhance balance and strength. It brings harmony to the body, mind, and spirit, offering calmness, clarity, and energy to face life’s challenges.

Recognizing its immense value, Sree Gurudeva has made yoga a vital part of the Pancha Mukhi Padhathi. Our yoga department is headed by experienced yogacharyas who oversee all aspects of this discipline. A well-structured yoga syllabus has been developed and implemented at the school.

MUSIC (Sangeeth)

There is music in everything. Music is the invisible thread that binds the universe and unites existence. It transcends boundaries and touches the soul, offering a path to the rhythm of life and the beauty of unity.

We believe every child possesses a musico-rhythmic ability that, if nurtured, can enhance their overall potential. Therefore, music is a vital component of our Pancha Mukhi module. All students receive structured music education through a thoughtfully designed curriculum under expert guidance.

Faculty Development & Institutional Strength

FACULTY FACT FILE

All faculty members at Sree Gurudeva Vidyanikethan are carefully selected through expert interview panels formed at multiple administrative levels. Beyond academic and professional qualifications, we also evaluate the communicative ability of candidates.

Each selected teacher is required to undergo a forty-day orientation course to internalize our school’s cultural ethos. Regular short-term refresher courses are conducted to keep our faculty aligned with the latest educational developments. These programs offer opportunities for academic introspection, pooling of ideas, and qualitative discussions.

After each refresher session, a visible enhancement in classroom performance can be observed. We aim to build classrooms as lively learning communities where both students and teachers grow together.

Value-Based & Character Building Initiatives

SEVA PROJECTS

Sree Gurudeva Vidyanikethan is a service-oriented educational institution committed to nurturing a harmonious and value-based social order. We inspire our students to contribute to a just, compassionate, and Dharma-adishtitha (righteously founded) society.

One of our key inspirations comes from Swami Vivekananda’s words:

“Feel, children! Feel for the poor, the ignorant, and the downtrodden.”

Among our various Seva Projects, Sevanidhi stands out. Each year, during a dedicated Seva Week, students voluntarily collect contributions which are offered in front of Swami Vivekananda’s portrait on his birth anniversary. These funds are used to establish Samskara Kendras and Single-Teacher Education Centres in tribal and underserved coastal regions.

The entire school community—students, teachers, and management—actively participates in these noble efforts.

Additionally, we strongly believe that no deserving child should be denied education due to financial constraints. The school extends financial concessions and support to such students, ensuring education for all.

NAITHIK EVAM ADHYATMIK SHIKSHAN (Moral and Spiritual Education)
